Full-Stack Engineer
Full-Stack Engineer
Hybrid (Chicago/Evanston) · Full-Time
The Role
We're looking for a Full-Stack Engineer to help us build out our software platform alongside our small team. You'll work across our existing codebase (FastAPI + Python backend, React + ReactFlow frontend, and AWS infrastructure managed with Terraform), contributing to architectural discussions, shipping production features, and helping shape what we build next.
This is not a role where you execute a pre-defined roadmap on your own, but it's also not one where you'll be working in isolation. You'll partner with the team to define priorities, propose solutions, and grow into broader technical ownership over time. If you have a few years of full-stack experience, want meaningful input into product and architecture decisions, and are energized by building things from scratch in an early-stage startup, this role is a good fit for you.
What You'll Do
- Help build a new software platform from the ground up, working alongside our engineering team and leveraging open-source tools and frameworks where possible
- Contribute to architecture decisions: help evaluate what we have, identify gaps, and shape the technical foundations as we scale
- Build and maintain full-stack features across our React frontend and FastAPI backend
- Integrate AI/ML model outputs into the product in a clean, reliable, and user-friendly way
- Work with our AWS infrastructure (ECS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront) and help evolve it as the product grows
- Help maintain and improve our CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and system monitoring
- Design and evolve our data models to keep them structured, performant, and scalable
- Help build feedback mechanisms that let us learn from customer usage and iterate quickly
- Collaborate with the team on technical decisions and tradeoffs
What We're Looking For
- BS with industry experience, or MS with industry experience
- 3 to 6 years of full-stack development experience (frontend and backend)
- Comfort working in AWS: deploying applications, debugging issues in production, and understanding common services (compute, storage, networking)
- Experience building features end-to-end, from API design through frontend implementation
- Solid grasp of API design and integration patterns (REST, async jobs, streaming)
- Database experience with NoSQL (DynamoDB or similar); familiarity with SQL is a plus
- Experience integrating AI/ML model outputs into production software (consuming APIs, handling streaming responses, designing UIs around model outputs, not building models)
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and basic monitoring
- Experience building interfaces that visualize complex technical or scientific data, such as engineering models or simulation outputs
- Excited and comfortable working in a fast-moving, early-stage startup environment
Nice-to-Have
- Experience at an early-stage or greenfield startup
- Familiarity with engineering simulation, CAD, FEA, CFD, or scientific computing environments
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- Strong product instincts: you think about how end users experience what you build
- Experience building customer feedback loops into a product
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $100,000 to $150,000 depending on experience and fit
- Equity included, with a standard 4-year vest and 1-year cliff
- Wellness stipend: $600/month (individual) or $1,200/month (family)
- 401(k) with Safe Harbor matching
